Lunch Break Doodle: batik friday

Every Friday, you can see people wearing batik everywhere in Jakarta. It’s sort of a non-written rule, I guess. I mean, the office where I work does not have it written but wearing batik on Fridays has become a tradition.

I really love Javanese batik. Along with Swedish kurbits it’s the main inspiration to my artwork. And I grew up playing in my neighbour’s house, where the daughters spent their time making fine batik. I loved…

The Power of Creating Art (a.k.a. making mockups when sick)

So today I still had to rest. I had been struggling with a heavy flu during the week and it just kept getting worse. In addition, the last few days my neck went stiff and turning my head to the right was a mission impossible. My doctor had given me extraordinary prescriptions to clear my congested nose and to sooth my inflamed throat – and what I meant by ‘extraordinary’ was that the meds literally put…

From my sketchbook: elephants, ganesha

Current exploration: elephants. ganesha. symbol of strength, remover of obstacles. the patron of arts and sciences, intellect and wisdom. also known as patron of letters and learning. blame it on my late dad. when i was kid he told me stories about archetypes from various mythologies to make me fall asleep. but well, i dont remember if wonder woman was ever mentioned 🤣

Happy Birthday Jakarta!

RECREATE AND RECYCLE (YOUR ARTWORK AND BLOG POSTS) PART 2: THE PLAN AND THE FIRST DOODLES

When I started a drawing I never planned. Really, drawing is like a meditation for me. Whatever finally comes up on paper is purely intuitive. And if you had read my bounce back story, about how this whole folksy graphicalicious collection started, then you knew I had know idea what would initially show up on the paper (or on screen), after moving my pen or mouse. I have no idea, and I enjoy it. I enjoy the…

RECREATE AND RECYCLE (YOUR ARTWORK AND BLOG POSTS) PART 1

At first, I wanted to redesign my blog.

Again?

Are you kidding me!

Well, it seemed like that little but authoritative voice inside me didn’t agree at all. In many cases I often ignored that voice because it’s too noisy but over time I have started to listen to it instead.

And in this case, I thought that voice had a point.

I had redesigned my blog many times now, ewww, I don’t remember how many times exactly, but not only that I redesigned the…

WHEN YOUR TIME FOR CREATIVITY GETS ROUGH…

Just remember, it’s all going to be OK :)

And get back to your preferred artboard without question, just do. I know, I found it very difficult as well. For several months I had been overwhelmed with projects and work travels and, once again, my creative pursuit suffered.

I don’t know what made it so damn difficult for me to take a few minutes a day just to move my pen over paper or to open illustrator and create a doodle. But maybe, just maybe, now I have…

From my sketchbook: stop and smell the roses

Happy Friday! Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.  #LunchBreakDoodle 170602

Free Calendar-to-colour 2017 is here! (+ bonus)

Hi friends!

I have to confess that I started the new year with a nightmare for a heavy coffee drinker like me: coffee overdose..

Does that something like that exist? I don’t know :D But on new year’s eve I spent the whole day and night finalising the calendar-to-colour 2017, and as always, a lot of coffee involved. I hit 00:00 on 1 January gloriously: the calendar-to-colour was done, and after taking pictures and…
